Terry’s Take… Spiritually Drained?
Sometimes the grey dates of Autumn and early Winter, the lack of sunshine, can cause us to become lethargic with our faith life.
When you wonder why you may feel spiritually drained, it can cause you to question your faith and become discouraged. But it helps to push through and you begin to realize feelings come and go and do not dictate your identity in Christ, your purpose, or who you are unless you let them.
When you feel spiritually drained it seems you are carrying a heavy suitcase filled with disappointments mistakes, unforgiveness, confusion, or fear.
There are many things in life that can lead to spiritual fatigue. When you identify what causes you to feel spiritually drained, you can address the issue before you start to feel hopeless and distant from God.
Here are five causes that seem to visit often:
- Conflict
- Loss
- Illness
- Lack of control
- Unmet expectations
It helps to recognize triggers to spiritual fatigue and try to manage and eliminate as much as possible. It requires you to examine your relationships, habits, and spiritual disciplines.
Although you experience many unpleasant situations in life, they don’t have to hold you captive and diminish your trust in God, His love and faithfulness, or His ability to guide you toward spiritual healing and fulfilling His plan for your life.
When there is no longer any opportunity for doubt, there is no opportunity for faith either.
